“I cannot do all the good that the world needs. But the world needs all the good that I can do.” ― Jana Stanfield
Starting as a first-generation farmer on less than an acre, I run a micro-farm with a much bigger purpose. The mission: To pass along what I have learned in an environment that fosters healing within agriculture and nature, while engaging in practices that are healthy for our environment (both in nature and our interactions within the community), the farmer, and the consumers.
We The Farmers is committed to helping veterans find healing in agriculture and 10% of all net profits will go directly towards establishing land access for veterans and their immediate family members to do so.
We The Farmers was created at the end of 2022 as an amalgamation of career paths rooted in serving communities through responsible agricultural practices where food and farming are healing. My combined years of experience in healthcare, the military, customer service, education, and working for other small farm businesses carved a path for me to continue my never-ending call to serve. The journey along this path led to an unexpected healing that I hope to share. After graduating from the Rodale Institute Veteran Farmer-In-Training Program in 2022, I spent two years cultivating my own backyard and honing skills that I learned along the way. I found my successes came most from the balance in keeping things at a smaller scale. Not wanting to compromise quality for quantity, I coined the phrase "Build Your Own Backyard Farm". BYOBF inspires anyone to use what they have and build communities around investing in small, local businesses. Supporting local agriculture invests in the health of our local economy, the farmer, the consumer, and the planet.
At We The Farmers, pasture-raised hens happily lay eggs, bees visit many flower blooms while vegetables, herbs, and berries grow in soil full of nutrients provided by regenerative agricultural practices.
We feed the soil and the soil feeds us.
We look forward to selling you the following items in 2025: Fresh and dried flowers, fresh & dried herbs (basil(s), calendula, catnip, chives, elderberries, garlic, horseradish, lemon balm, mint(s), oregano, parsley(s), rosemary, rue, saffron, thyme, and many more), herbal bath products, honey, microgreens, and any seed stock items (garlic, horseradish, native pollinator seeds).
As these items become available for sale, we will update sales channels accordingly.
Hi, I am Farmer Jessie, born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Washington County, a wanderlust of sorts and a lover of life. After my first tour of duty in the Air Force, I settled down in Eastern PA where I reside with my family in a small village nestled between mountains in Schuylkill County.
I love anything to do with exploring in the outdoors, rescue dogs, tapping into my creative side, and helping others.
After years of battling PTSD, I found that I wanted to share part of my healing journey in agriculture which inspired me to create We The Farmers.
We live at our micro farm, so please be respectful and schedule a visit. We are not open to the general public.
